The first anniversary of reading down of Article 370
The Background, Photos: Sk Yamin
There is no official ‘curfew’ in Srinagar today but movement of traffic and people is severely restricted. Our photographer Sk Yamin was stopped at the Downtown area of the city. When he demanded to show any government order, the police personnel refused to listen and said, “There is a curfew. That’s enough.”
Most of the roads in the city remain blocked by concertina wire and vehicles are not allowed to pass. Kashmir observed the first anniversary of the reading down of Article 370 and its disappearance as a state.
As Yamin reports,
Doctors, emergency services had a tough time to move.
Last Monday, the administration had announced curfew for 4 and 5 August. But late Tuesday night, the District Magistrate Shahid Iqbal Choudhury suddenly lifted the curfew.
But the residents of Srinagar and parts of the Valley woke up to severe restrictions today. Streets are deserted. The city looks like a ghost town.
